For the tenth time, the court in Cotabambas has failed to conclude the case concerning the 19 human rights defenders arrested in 2015 for their part in the protests against the Las Bambas mine. Two of the accused face possible sentences of 16 and 17 years respectively. Others face fines. The reason for suspension is the absence of experts from the Public Prosecution Service (Ministerio Público). The case will resume on 27 February. Yet again, those required to attend and their families will face transport and other costs.
