The UN reports that the coronavirus has upended the world drug supply chains and generally reduced shipments. The distribution of cocaine around the world depends on hiding cocaine in legitimate consignments of goods shipped principally by sea but also by air and other transport media. With reduced shipments, drug enforcement agencies have an easier task in detecting illegal shipments. Further, with the disruption of drug supply chains, conflict arises between drug cartels as they reconfigure their links. In Peru, the price of coca leaves has dropped by nearly 50% from January to April this year.
