Pedro Chávarry, the chief public prosecutor who is the lynchpin of the Fujimoristas’ attempts to protect Keiko Fujimori from prosecution, was invited by the congressional defence committee, chaired by Aprista Congressman Jorge del Castillo, to use the opportunity to launch a tirade against José Domingo Pérez, the prosecutor who is investigating Keiko Fujimori.

Chávarry lambasted Pérez for his previous statements to the effect that Chávarry was unsuitable to occupy the position he now holds, a view shared by President Martín Vizcarra. The taped recordings of conversations linked Chávarry with Hinostrosa, accused of being a member of a criminal organisation in Callao.
