A further session took place this week in the series organised by the Centro Bartolomé de las Casas and Cooperacción. The first took place in May in Cotabambas. Five workshops have now taken place in September in various districts of Cotabambas, attended by 400 women. The focus as before was the strengthening of self esteem and leadership, while much of the discussion revolved around domestic violence. A figure quoted, from the Centros de Emergencia Mujer, or CEM – is that while 70% of the women of the zone suffer domesic violence, only 10% are prepared to denounce it.

The women attending were mostly quechua speaking.
