Yhony Lescano from Accion Popular has raised his voice in protest against the appointments to a parliamentary commission to investigate links between the Brazilian ‘car wash’ (Lava Jato) scandal and political kick-backs in Peru from construction contracts during the governments of Alejandro Toledo (2001-06), Alan García (2006-11) and Ollanta Humala (2011-16). The commission is composed of two members of Congress from Gana Perú (Humala’s party), two from Fuerza Popular (Keiko Fujimori’s party), two from Concertacion Parliamentaria (García’s party), one from Perú Posible (Toledo’s party) and one from Dignidad y Democracia. “They’re going to investigate themselves”, Lescano has said “they themselves will see if their governments were guilty or not”.
