Fujimoristas continue to champion the conservative agenda
10 April 2017
Continuing with the agenda they have been promoting as a political party since becoming a majority in Congress the Fujimoristas have attacked the Legislative Decree DL 1323. The decree had been passed to protect women, children and members of the LGBTQ community from abuse. It was passed in January 2017 and it criminalized attacks based on gender, sexuality and gender identity. The changes were passed without public debate from within the Constitutional Committee and many legislators complained about how the process had happened.
The Fujimorista majority has passed a motion removing the references to the terms sexual orientation and gender identity. This follows on from their attacks on what they consider to be a flawed vision of gender ideology, which they are also fighting in the school curriculum. Congressman Carlos Bruce, one of the few legislators who is openly gay, described the measure as “unconstitutional” because Congress does not have the right to modify the decrees passed by the executive.
