On 21 November, the Environment Ministry (MINAM) created a temporary working group to design the composition and functioning of an indigenous peoples’ platform on climate change (Ministerial Resolution No. 358-2019-MINAM). The working group, created in response to the demand for an indigenous platform by those indigenous organisations that participated in the consultation over implementing Peru’s climate change framework law, will be headed by a representative of MINAM and comprise representatives of seven of the organisations.

In line with paragraph 135 of the Paris Agreement on Global Climate Change, the working group will have six months to carry out its work, which includes defining the structure and functions of the proposed platform and elaborating a road map for implementation.
