Luis Nava, Alan García’s former private secretary and one of his closest collaborators, both in his first administration (1985-90) and in his second (2006-11) has given details of how García spent the money he received from Odebrecht. In testimony to the state prosecutor José Domingo Pérez Nava recounted how the money went on lavish parties, membership of exclusive clubs and on plans to buy luxurious homes both in Peru and in Europe. It makes for interesting reading. The allegations made by Nava are strongly denied by García’s family.
