Public Prosecutor José Domingo Pérez has indicated that he will now open formal investigations on former presidents Alejandro Toledo, Alan García, and Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, based on the information that all their campaigns received financing from Odebrecht. This is an addition to the investigation into Ollanta Humala and Keiko Fujimori.

Pérez has faced intimidation from Fuerza Popular members who appear to be doing what they can to make his task more difficult. This was evident when he went to the FP party offices in search of evidence. He was brought before the congressional commission investigating alleged human rights abuses by former president Ollanta Humala. On 31 May Pérez had to declare for over two hours before the commission headed by Fujimorista Héctor Becerril. Becerril accused Pérez of not wanting fully to disclose what he knew of a 2011 video. Pérez maintains that this was an attempt to intimidate him and has declared that his position as a representative of the judiciary, which is an independent power of the state, is not being respected.
