Readers of the PSG Newsletter will, over the years, have savoured the often unhappy saga of mining investment in Peru, particularly in relation to the conflicts that have arisen across the country from Piura in the north to Tacna in the south. Cooperacción, the Lima-based NGO which has supported many communities’ claims against those of mining companies, has just published a compilation that provides a comprehensive account of struggles over the last ten years, 2008 to date.

The author is José de Echave, the former vice-minister for the environment, who has spoken at a number of PSG events over the years. He is someone with probably unparalleled information on the subject but has not been brow-beaten into keeping his opinions to himself. For those who would like to read this compilation of his various articles and editorials since 2008 can do so by viewing.
