In the first eight months of this year Peru displaced Chile as the single most important source of copper supplied to China, according to Bloomberg. China received 3.22 million tons of copper concentrate from Peru, but only 2.72 million from Chile. Peru has been able to step up its production of copper because of the inauguration of Toromocho (Junín) and Las Bambas (Apurímac) in the last few years. Both mines are operated by Chinese companies.
