In February the Anti-corruption court began a trial against Montesinos for trafficking drugs to the Colombian guerrillas the FARC in the late 1990s. If convicted Montesinos, who has already been found guilty of four lesser charges of corruption, could receive a 20-year sentence, his longest yet. Prosecutors believe Montesinos masterminded a deal in which 10,000 AK-47s were bought from Jordan and parachuted to jungle-based FARC rebels. There are a further 19 people implicated in the case.
